Moong bean/Moon daal is included in the cuisine of subcontinet. Two type of  Mung lentil used in Pakistan Green mung bean(beans with green skin), Yellow mung beans(beans without skin).Green mung bean is occasionally prepared but yellow mung bean is usually eaten with chapati,salad,pickle and rice or chapati in Pakistan.It basically eaten in summer & winter season both.Yellow mung bean is usually prepared with simple ingredients like garlic,red chilli powder,turmeric,salt,gram masala.


Many dishes can be prepared with yellow mung daal. Moong daal Kofta is also prepared with yellow mung beans. Kofta is the classic dish of Pakistan,which are the balls prepared by beef/mutton meat.But here we used the yellow mung beans to prepare this dish.First mung daal paste is prepared by blending with different spices,then this paste is deep fried in Kofta shape.The onion & ginger garlic gravy is prepared with different spices and cook these kofta with onion gravy & crushed,fried brown onion.Garnish with green coriander & served with chapati.

Ingredients;

  1. Moong daal (soaked overnight) 2 cup
  2. Onion (medium size) 1
  3. Green chilli 3-4
  4. Green coriander & Mint as required
  5. Yogurt 1 cup
  6. Egg 1
  7. Garam masala 1 tsp
  8. Salt as required
  9. Onion paste 4 tbsp
  10. ginger garlic paste 2 tbsp
  11. cumin powder (roasted) 1 tsp
  12. Red chilli powder 2 tbsp

preparation of moon daal paste;

  1. Soaked moong daal overnight
  2. when it soaked properly,dried all water of  lentil
  3. blended the lentil well to make its thick paste.
  4. when the lentil blended smoothly,add the other ingredients.
  5. add 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste.
  6. blend garam masala powder,cumin powder,red chilli,salt & baking soda
  7. in the last blend the 1 egg with lentil paste.
  8. and blend green chilli with paste slightly.
  9. mix paste ready,add green coriander & mint in it.
  10. Keep that paste aside in the bowl for 2 hour.

preparation of moon kofta;

  • After 2 hour heat oil in the frying pan
  • make kofta of these lentil paste
  • Now put that moong daal/lentil mixture in the frying pan like Pakoras.
  • deep fry these koftas

make gravy of koftas;

  1. Heat the oil in the pan and fry 1 medium size onion.
  2. Fry the onion until it turn brown & crispy.
  3. when onion is brown,drain it out & crushed slightly.
  4. Now fry 2 bay leaves,onion paste &1 tbsp ginger garlic paste.
  5. (here we have 2 tbsp ginger garlic paste,1 dd in in moong daal paste and 1 in gravy)
  6. After frying the onion,ginger,garlic paste,add all spices.
  7. add turmeric & red chilli powder,salt,coriander powder.
  8. Fry all spices well,then add yogurt & crushed brown onion.
  9. Add 1&1/2 glass of water,when all spices fried well.
  10. Now cover & cook gravy for few minutes.
  11. when gravy is ready,add fried kofta.
  12. Now cook kofta on low flame for few minutes.
  13. Served & garnish with green coriander & chapati.
