Spinach (Spinacia oleracea) is a verdant green blossoming plant local to focal and western Asia. It comes from southwestern and focal Asia. Its blossoms are little and yellow. Spinach is plentiful in nutrient K, nutrient A, nutrient C, and folate, making it sound. Spinach, alongside other green, verdant vegetables, is wealthy in iron.

Gram flour or besan is a heartbeat flour produced using a kind of ground chickpea called the gram chickpea. It is a staple fixing in the cooking of the Indian subcontinent, remembering for Indian, Bangladeshi, Burmese, Nepali, Pakistani, and Sri Lankan cuisines.Gram flour contains a high extent of carbs, higher fiber comparative with different flours, no gluten, and a higher extent of protein than different flours.


Today we have introducing a unique, amazing ,delicious and nutritious dish for out viewers Palak/Spinach and besan/Gram flour dish.Although it is somehow time consuming  but very spicy and yummy vegetables recipe. Only the preparation of Pataway roles is quite difficult but our YouTube video given below or "Simple Pakistani Cuisine" channel, the link given in the last of blog will definitely clear your all doubts.And you definitely admired our recipe after cooking it.

This recipe is basically consist of two steps.

The ingredients are very important in this recipe.If ingredients or less or more will definitely destroy the taste of recipes.That's why we have given the perfect ratio of ingredients/masala. You should check all ingredients given below.The second important thing is add the right amount of chopped spinach & gram flour in the recipe. If you add much spinach .The role would broken during cutting,steaming or preparation. Ingredients:

  • Onion paste (medium size)  2
  • Ginger Garlic paste 2 tbsp
  • Yogurt 1/2 cup
  • Cooking oil 1/2 cup
  • Garam masala 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder 1 tbsp
  • Salt 1 tsp


Ingredients for Pataway:

  • Spinach chopped (as required)
  • Garam flour 250 gm
  • Green chillies paste 2 tbsp
  • Chilli flakes 1 tbsp
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Chaat masala 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds  1 tbsp (roasted & crushed)


Preparation method of  Pataway mixture:

  1. Add Gram flour in a bowl.
  2. Then add all ingredients such as red chilli flakes, salt, cumin seeds, chaat masala and green chilli paste.
  3. Mix all these ingredients.
  4. Now add chopped spinach and make it a mixture by adding a little bit water.
  5. Kneed this mixture by hand.
  6. Make their roles after preparing the mixture.
  7. Now boil water in a pan.
  8. and when it's come to boil cover it with sieve.
  9. Apply a little bit  oil on sieve.
  10. Now Keep spinach roles on sieve.
  11. Cover these roles & steam them for 20 to 25 minutes.
  12. after 25 minutes the roles are cooked well.
  13. keep these pataway roles aside for few minutes.
  14. and let them cool.
  15. after cool down, cut these roles in equal pieces.
  16. Now heat the oil in frying pan, and fry all these  pieces one by one on medium flame.
  17. Fry until they turn light golden.
  18. Now dish out all pieces after frying light golden.



Cooking Method of Pataway:


  • First of all, heat 1/2 cup cooking oil in a pan.
  • At the same time add, onion paste to fry.
  • Add ginger garlic paste after frying the onion paste for 4/5 minutes.
  • Add all spices such as turmeric,red chillies & coriander powder along with ginger garlic paste.
  • At the same time add 1/2 cup Yogurt & mix well.
  • Fry all these ingredients well on medium flame for 7/8 minutes.
  • When oil is separating & gravy start givinge specific aroma of frying masala.
  • Then add 2 glass of water.
  • And cover & cook on low flame for 10-15 minutes.
  • When after 10-15 the gravy is read, sprinkle some dried fenugreek along with it add fried pataway pieces.
  • Cover & cook them for 2/3 minutes on low flames.
  • After 2 minutes this delicious & amazing recipe is cooked perfectly.
  • Now dish it out and present with hot chapati.
